Meet the Doctors


Doctor Wood

Dr. Michael P. Wood, owner of Vision PLUS, has over twenty years of Optometric experience.  After graduating from Woodruff High School, South Carolina, he made his decision to join the U. S. Navy. In 1969, Dr. Wood started as an enlisted submarine fire control technician before being accepted in a Naval Officer program.  In 1975, he went on to receive a B. S. degree in Computer Science from North Carolina State University.  Following his graduation, he became a Submarine Officer onboard the U.S.S. Alexander Hamilton.  He was awarded numerous medals, ribbons, and honors for his significant contributions to the Navy.

After his extensive tours of duty, Dr. Wood was assigned to Washington, D. C. where he, in addition to his Navy duties, attended the University of Maryland to attain the pre-requisites for entry into Optometry school.  In 1980, Dr. Wood was selected to attend the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.  He graduated in 1984 with a Doctor of Optometry degree.  After graduation, he continued his Navy service as an Optometrist at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, MD., Director of Optometry, Naval Optometry Clinic, Arlington, VA, and Director of Optometry, Naval Base Quantico’s Naval Clinic, Quantico, VA. 

In 1992, after serving the Navy for twenty years, Dr. Wood retired from naval service.  He, his wife Elaine, and their two children, Melanee and Michael, Jr. moved to Greenville, S.C.  After working extensively with consultants and finalizing the details of his own private practice, Dr. Wood’s Vision PLUS was open to the patient populace in July, 1995.

Among his many attributes, Dr. Wood is licensed in therapeutics for the treatment and management of ocular diseases.  He is, also, thoroughly involved in community services promoting vision wellness.  After being a committee member on the board of the South Carolina Optometric Association, Dr. Wood was nominated as Vice President.  In addition to being the Vice President of the South Carolina Optometric Association, he holds professional memberships in the American Optometric Association, National Optometric Association, American Diabetes Association, and the Piedmont Optometric Society.  Dr. Wood is credentialed with the W. J. Dorn Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, S. C.

 

Doctor Pruitt

Dr. Craig Pruitt is a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina.  He has practiced Optometry in the upstate for over 10 years.  Dr. Pruitt graduated from Spartanburg High in 1988.  That fall, he enrolled at the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg (now USC Upstate).  He graduated in 1992 with a B. S. degree in Biology.

Dr. Pruitt attended the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, from 1992 until 1996.  After graduation, he was hired by One Way Eye Glasses where he worked full time until 2000.  In 2001, with the help of Dr. Michael Wood, Dr. Pruitt purchased an existing practice in Duncan, South Carolina.  The second Vision Plus officially opened March 21, 2001.  Dr. Pruitt has practiced at the Duncan office full time since 2002.

Dr. Pruitt is currently a member of the South Carolina Optometric Association.  He is licensed to diagnose and treat ocular diseases.  He currently resides in Spartanburg with his wife Candace, and their son, Craig, Jr.
